That is me (Katie) and that’s my husband (David). We are a photography team based in the northern suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia (east side, respectably). In the Fall of 2016, we started dating. I knew I was going to marry him after the first date. A little over 13 months later we got married just down the road from my parent’s house the day after a historic snowfall. Yes, it snowed on our wedding date, in Georgia, at the beginning of December. It was honestly a dream come true for us, sans the frigid temps. That’s our little love story so now more about us.
There are 2 extremely important things you should know about us. We are extremely obsessed with our dog, Shylah Reese. She’s a 5-year-old black lab that my parents got me when I was in college. I told David the first time we hung out that the dog and I are a package deal. He has truly embraced her and they are the best of friends now. We’ve also taught her a bit of Romanian (because she’s a smarty). Secondly, Mexican food. We live within walking distance of our favorite Mexican restaurant. It’s a serious issue. It’s a serious love affair that will never grow old. We are currently on an intense homemade guac kick. Here are a few other fun things about us: we LOVE the lake (Lake Hartwell – Georgia side), sunrise + sunset walks are our favorite, our relationship with the Lord is really important to us (we met at church), and we run Hevesi.Co as a team and best friends. We both show up at weddings and most of the time sessions too. We are each other’s best friends and doing this together is the most fun thing!
David works as a software technician for a company in the Atlanta area. Previously he installed hardwood floors (that’s where he came in handy with my wooden signs business). He also works tirelessly in the mornings, at night, and often on the weekends doing freelance web design (learn more about that here). He has worked really hard redoing this website while also creating a web site for a non-profit, while also having a day job. Fun facts about him: He was born and raised in Romania (hence the name, except Hevesi is actually Hungarian). He moved here when he was 15 and thankfully still has a little bit of an accent (love that!). He has a huge heart for people and is a social butterfly. He’s a 6 on the Enneagram. He loves food, like any kind of food, but specifically all things spicy or chocolate.
As I work full-time on photography & various creative ventures, I also am a full-time graduate student. I am almost halfway through getting my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Upon finishing I want to work with adolescents and eating disorders. Recently, I have developed a huge passion for nutrition and integrative health. I have a huge problem with my education where I just don’t want it to stop. Upon finishing this degree, there are about 3 certificates I want to get related to the counseling field. After that, I may get another master or even of a doctorate in nutrition or holistic/integrative health. TBD. While David & I have similarities, we sure are different. I am not a social butterfly, but I treasure one-on-one time. I love sitting down across the table in a comfy chair with a cup of hot black coffee getting to know people on a personal level (I get real deep sometimes and sometimes it’s just a joking fest). I’ve lived in a 20-mile radius of my current location my entire life. I have not taken the enneagram (because I’m stubborn but after taking time recently to really learn more about it, I’ve agreed to take it. Stay tuned.) Lastly, I’m one of those weirdos with food allergies… I started learning my allergies at 15 so it’s not a “fad” thing. On top of my food allergies, I don’t eat meat or most animal products, which has required me to chef up and when I have time, I make some mean animal-free dishes that even my meat loving hubs enjoys.
Hevesi.Co started in 2016 (under another name) when I (Katie) started created hand-lettered wooden signs. David joined in 2017 where we continued to create and grow our creativity. Fast forward to the last week of 2017, weeks after we got married and David bought me a camera. The camera started as a fun hobby to accompany my blogging (bet you didn’t know I had a blog). Then we went to Disney World… yes, Disney World, the happiest place on Earth. Our love of photography finally clicked in our minds and the thought of starting our own business came to life. We did a few sessions and instantly knew we had found another creative passion we could pursue together. And that ladies and gentlemen is how Hevesi.Co was born.
We have loved every minute and challenge of this journey. It’s taught us so much about the creative entrepreneur life, how to balance our daily life with our creative passions, and honestly, it’s taught us a lot about each other. This “little” business has changed our lives and marriage forever in the best ways possible. We are so honored every time we have couples, individuals, and other entities trust us to capture their special moments. So far, this is the most fun adventure that we never planned on, and it’s only the beginning!
